Modern, Modular Tour Poster

Drew Grow & The Pastors’ Wives needed a poster for their West Coast mini-tour that allowed for promoters and venues to have some leeway with names, dates, and supporting acts since the tour was still being booked while the band was on the road. We all agreed that QR codes and a big blank spot were necessary to the design.

My ‘Business of Music 101′ class made the front page of the Arts and Living section of the Oregonian today, which coincides nicely with tonight’s record release party for “A Work In Progress,” a CD compilation of original student work, written, recorded and produced [mainly] by them. Judging A Book’s Cover

My dear friend and colleague, Rob Haworth, came to me looking for a few sketches for his new book, ‘Anarchist Pedagogies’ (out in January 2012 via PM Press), and I gladly obliged him. Unfortunately, my vision for the cover didn’t align with the publisher’s, and several sketches such as the one above got left on the cutting room floor.

Unleashing A Beast

In the year leading up to the release of her full-length album, “Ghost of the Beast”, Kelli Schaefer released songs from her upcoming record as A-side/B-side CD singles every other month, or so. The very first single released from the album was “City Morgue / Better Idea”, and the band played two shows to commemorate its release, one at The [now defunct] Woods in Portland, Oregon, and another at the Sunset Tavern in Seattle.

As a collection of modern pop songs, recorded entirely in analog during the first few years of the digital millenium, Metropolitan’s second album needed a cover that conveyed its place in both history and modernity. Family keepsakes and estate sale ephemera were collaged digitally to create pieces like the one depicted above. Stream the album here.

After being introduced to Crap Hound by some friends, my appetite for clip art became almost insatiable. I cleared library shelves, raided Goodwills, and went broke at Powell’s after I’d cut up every periodical I could lay hands on. Pieces like the one above were a direct result of my unhealthy obsession during this time.
